GHAZIABAD: A massive traffic jam hit DME and NH-9 at the Ghaziabad-Delhi border on Monday morning amid heightened police deployment and vehicle checks ahead of the implementation of Delhi’s new vehicle restrictions from November 1 to curb air pollution.
Varun Singh, ADCP (Traffic), said that traffic police are carrying out rigorous inspections of all vehicles, including cars, trucks and two-wheelers. Multiple barricades were installed on the Ghaziabad and Delhi sides, with police checking vehicle documents, registration details and emission compliance before allowing vehicles to proceed. “Any vehicle that does not meet the required standards is being turned back, which is causing a traffic jam. We have deployed the traffic force to manage the situation. At six points along the Ghaziabad-Delhi border, traffic police are inspecting vehicles. These six locations are beneath UP Gate, above UP Gate, in front of the Media House, Seemapuri border, Tulsi Niketan and Loni border.
