Dehradun : Top Congress leaders from Uttarakhand, including state unit chief Ganesh Godiyal, leader of opposition Yashpal Arya and senior leader Pritam Singh, met party national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Monday to map out strategy for the 2027 assembly elections.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Kumari Selja announced that the party will escalate its anti-incumbency campaign with statewide protests.
Escalating its attack ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand assembly polls, Congress accused the BJP’s “double-engine” state govt of betraying public trust, citing failing law and order, rampant corruption, and environmental mismanagement. “On Nov 4, we will hold a big rally to expose corruption, especially land scams, and stage dharnas across the state,” Selja said, adding that public anger over unemployment, migration, and misgovernance has paved the way for political change. Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Congress state chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni told TOI, “The discussions covered the current social and political landscape of Uttarakhand, key public interest issues, the strengthening of the organisation, and preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. “The meeting was significant in terms of further strengthening the party organisation—with a focus on collective leadership and improved coordination—in view of the upcoming assembly elections,” she said. Emphasising the party’s roadmap heading into the election cycle, Dasauni added that the “Congress party is committed to raising issues that concern the people of the state and fulfilling its role in line with public expectations.”
Deliberations also focused on electoral strategy, organisational coordination, the active participation of party workers, and ensuring the effective reach of the Congress party across every region of the state. ” Dasauni noted that the central leadership is giving serious consideration to Uttarakhand’s political climate and the party’s ground readiness.
