Injured woman turned away at Bareilly thana; SSP suspends SHO, 2 others

Agra teen killed after failed rape bid; accused held in encounter

Meerut: Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya has suspended CB Ganj police station SHO Vinod Singh, senior sub-inspector Jitendra Kumar and sub-inspector Ashwani Sharma for negligence after they turned away a woman who had arrived at the police station with a severe head injury to lodge a complaint.

The victim, a resident of the CB Ganj area, had approached the local police station on Oct 27 seeking assistance. The SSP’s office subsequently issued explicit instructions to CB Ganj police on Oct 29 to act on the matter immediately. SSP Arya stated that the action was taken due to strict non-tolerance for dereliction of duty.

“The woman was thrashed by her husband, and when she reached the police station to lodge a complaint, no FIR was lodged,” he said. Departmental inquiries have also been ordered against all three officers. Despite her visible and grave injury, the personnel on duty failed to register an FIR based on her complaint. Following the inaction at the local level, the woman appealed to senior police officials. However, the station personnel failed to execute the directives, leading to their immediate suspension.
