Kochi : Ernakulam consumer grievance redressal forum has ordered Kerala State Road Transport

Kochi : Angamaly-based industrialist K T Jose has donated Rs 40 lakh to help cash-strapped

Kochi : Ernakulam consumer grievance redressal forum has ordered Kerala State Road Transport Corporation ( KSRTC ) to pay Rs 45,000 compensation to a passenger injured during a vacation trip to Malakkapara in Oct 2023.

The order followed a complaint filed by the wife of the injured 73-year-old Edapally resident.

The bus crew asked the elderly passenger to move to another seat, saying passengers boarding at Angamaly had booked the seat he initially occupied, according to the complaint. A residents’ association had organised the trip in a KSRTC bus. As he was moving, the driver suddenly applied the brakes, causing him to fall on the bus floor and fracture a bone in his left wrist.

He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery, with his family spending Rs 50,000 on treatment. KSRTC has been operating vacation trips to tourist destinations under its budget tourism initiative since 2021. The complainant alleged that KSRTC had failed to provide proper service. The forum issued its order after examining hospital documents. The cash-strapped corporation uses the initiative, which has been highly successful, to increase revenue. However, multiple incidents involving its buses have recently raised concerns.
