Court pulls up Nora Fatehi for skipping hearing, issues fresh summons — Sukesh case

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: A Delhi court has issued fresh summons to actor Nora Fatehi , directing her to appear on Nov 6 as a witness in the case involving Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is accused of extortion and money laundering involving Rs 200 crore.

Police submitted that a notice had been served on her on Oct 22 through email and WhatsApp and that phone calls had also been made, but she had not responded. A court had earlier framed charges against him, his wife Leena Paulose, and others under Sections 170 (personating a public servant), 384 (extortion) and 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

As a witness, you should have appeared in court; your conduct is not proper, don’t take the court for granted…,” the judge said. On Oct 16, the court had directed that summons be issued to “Nora Fatehi alias Naura Fatehi”, listed as witness number 3 (LW-3) in the third supplementary chargesheet, for Nov 2. The court expressed displeasure over her non-appearance Monday after her counsel sought an exemption from personal appearance. Additional Sessions Judge Gagandeep Singh issued the fresh summons and cautioned Fatehi against taking court proceedings lightly. “This cannot be taken lightly… Delhi Police informed the court that it had no confirmation of Fatehi’s appearance. The case against Chandrasekhar is being investigated by Delhi Police Special Cell.

Witnesses are initially designated as listed witnesses (LWs) in a chargesheet and are assigned prosecution witness (PW) numbers after they appear before the court and their statements are recorded.
