Citizens in Pune are facing severe hardship due to the alternate-day water cut implemented by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)
“The administration has announced a water shutdown once a week, but it has been unofficially stretched to three days.
Civic officials said the overall supply had improved compared to the past few days, with overhead storage tanks at various locations, including Warje, Chandni Chowk and SNDT, receiving water without major disruptions. However, residents across the city said the administration must streamline supply at the earliest, with Diwali approaching. The authorities must ensure adequate supply during the festive period,” said Pravin Thite, a resident of the Tadiwala Road area. Another resident, Jayesh Rane, said the administration’s declared weekly water shutdown had effectively been extended to three days.
However, technical problems at the Khadakwasla water-lifting station continued to affect operations. Areas that had received inadequate water over the previous two days got priority during distribution. Every alternate day, there is some problem either with the supply lines or at pumping stations. How will the administration manage water supply during summer if distribution is already facing so many disruptions? Rane asked.
Pune: The civic administration on Monday further improved water pumping at various waterworks units, including Parvati and Wadgaon. Officials at the Cantonment waterworks said there were no major supply-related problems on Monday.
The chief minister should look into the matter on priority,” Nikam said. NCP leader and PMC leader of opposition Nilesh Nikam has written to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking adequate water allocation for Pune. “The city must receive an adequate water allocation to meet its growing requirements.
