New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi ’s (MCD) plan to make its multi-lane free flow (MLFF) toll collection system operational at 20 prominent toll plazas, which see 85% of traffic pass through, by Oct 31 has not taken off.
Staff at the toll plaza, however, claimed that the congestion was primarily due to checks being done by traffic police and that the toll collection system was functioning more efficiently than on previous days.
We are confident of putting the new system in place at some toll points by the weekend, following which trial runs will be conducted to assess its efficiency,” an official said. At the Ghazipur toll plaza, commuters as usual faced chaos and long queues Monday as staff were checking commercial vehicles for payment of tolls via RFID tags. Traffic police personnel were present at the borders to enforce restrictions and ensure that BS-IV vehicles not registered in Delhi do not enter. “Despite sudden rainfall for two consecutive days last week, the agency assigned the task is working diligently to install the entire system. We received clearance from NHAI in mid-Sept, which naturally affected the overall timeline.
