Complaints about unhygienic conditions will be addressed with corrective steps within 24 hours. Nagpur: Officials and staff of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) who neglect cleanliness at public and community toilets will face disciplinary action.
The next hearing is scheduled for Nov 30.
Zonal officers will monitor whether inspectors are fulfilling their duties, it said. It also said the system would be implemented effectively and that future directions of the court would be followed. NMC stated this in a written statement submitted to the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court during the hearing of a public interest litigation filed by advocate Sandeep Badana, who flagged poor conditions at public toilets and alleged irregularities in their upkeep. As per the civic body, responsibility for routine cleaning has been fixed, with sanitation inspectors in respective wards tasked with regular cleaning and maintenance and ensuring hygiene standards at public and community toilets. The court was informed that officers and employees who delay resolving complaints, neglect cleanliness or fail to carry out assigned duties will face disciplinary proceedings under service rules. Badana argued the matter in person, while advocate A S Mehadia appeared for the municipal corporation.
The matter was heard on Monday by Justice Anil Kilor and Justice Rajnish Vyas.
