Kanpur: Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against a loader driver, two named accused and several unidentified persons for allegedly assaulting and molesting a woman on the Kanpur-Prayagraj National Highway near UPSIDC in Maharajpur.
The woman, a resident of Chaubepur, told police that she and her brother-in-law were travelling by car to her sister’s house in Kulgaon around 6.35pm on Oct 26 when a loader allegedly hit their vehicle while attempting to overtake it, according to the FIR. She further alleged that when her brother-in-law intervened, Nirmal attacked him with a stick kept in the loader, injuring him. The accused allegedly fled after threatening to kill them when passers-by rushed to their rescue. Police reached the spot after receiving information, took the woman to the police station and arranged for her medical examination. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area and searching for the accused.
Maharajpur police station in-charge Janardan Singh said the woman lodged a complaint on Monday.
