Decentralised, Institute-Level Counselling
Calcutta University has filled all the 187 vacant BTech seats in 14 disciplines through the institute-level decentralised, offline admission process. The opening and closing ranks for computer science and engineering were WBJEE 2,156th rank and 3,227th rank respectively, while electrical and electronics engineering recorded an opening rank of 2,943 and a closing rank of 4,125. For electronics and communication engineering, the ranks ranged from 1,868 to 2,688, while information technology recorded an opening rank of 2,505 and a closing rank of 4,195. The university conducted physical verification of documents on Oct 30 and 31, where the officials came across some candidates of WBJEE ranks up to 3,000, who had not booked their seats in the earlier centralised process. But all the seats were filled in the decentralised process, even the 63 seats in jute technology, a first-time occurrence. TOI had reported that JU BTech managed to attract students among the top 50 WBJEE rank-holders under the general category. The opening ranks of candidates for most sought-after courses in JU, such as IT and computer science and engineering, are 31 and 37. During the campus-level decentralised counselling and spot admission between Oct 28 and 30, 182 vacant seats at JU were filled. In electronics & telecommunication engineering, the closing rank is 442 and that of IT, 609.
CU officials said they were surprised at all the remaining seats being taken up in a single round of institute-level decentralised, offline counselling. “Asked why they didn’t take admission earlier, they said they were confused by the board’s changed counselling procedure and also, they couldn’t find seats in the streams of their choice. “After the campus-level decentralised counselling, the best closing rank in the general category is in computer science & engineering at 226 while in the printing engineering & packaging technology, it slides to 5,811, which is also the closing figure of the entire BTech courses,” said a teacher.
Very few booked their seats in the online system. The best WBJEE-ranked among the JU admission-takers this year—18th—has opted for civil engineering.
At Jadavpur University, the 182 seats that remained vacant earlier, were also filled up at the institute level. During the centralised admission, the highest-rank BTech candidate to enrol at JU was a WBJEE 18 rank-holder, who opted for civil engineering.
