Ahmedabad: A former municipal councillor, who lives in Keshavnagar, has accused a builder of using casteist slurs against her, threatening the residents of her housing society and repeatedly harassing women over a redevelopment dispute.

The 63-year-old filed a complaint with Ranip police on Monday. She said the society’s buildings were around 50 years old and had been selected for redevelopment.

Builder Tejash Patel signed a memorandum of understanding with the society’s chairperson and secretary in 2023, valid for 60 days, according to her complaint. In March 2026, he allegedly abused her with casteist remarks while she was sitting with other women on a bench on the society’s premises. However, he allegedly failed to begin the redevelopment work within the stipulated period. The society members later approached another developer, whose representative, Suresh Jaiswal, began seeking the members’ consent. The complainant alleged that Patel asked Jaiswal to withdraw from the project, and the latter backed out. She also alleged that Patel repeatedly visited the society and threatened that no other builder would be allowed to carry out the redevelopment. The complaint also alleges that Patel followed women from the society to the Keshavnagar vegetable market and grocery shops, hurled casteist abuses and made lewd remarks, and posted objectionable comments on the society’s WhatsApp group. The complainant, a former councillor from the Madhupura-Dudheshwar ward, submitted a copy of her caste certificate and sought legal action. Download the TOI App.
