Fourteen second-year MBBS students of Govt Medical College (GMC), Kamareddy, were suspended

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: Fourteen second-year MBBS students of Govt Medical College (GMC), Kamareddy, were suspended on Wednesday following a ragging complaint lodged with National Medical Commission (NMC).

Explaining the circumstances, college principal Dr B Valya told TOI that the freshers and final-year students were accommodated in a common hostel, while second-year students stayed outside the college hostel. This continued for three to four days and caused considerable mental distress to the juniors,” said Dr Valya, adding that though final-year students also stayed on the same premises, they were not involved in the incident. “The commission passed the matter to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), which then informed the college,” Dr Valya added.

“The second-year students were regularly entering the hostel where the first-year students were staying. They would trouble the freshers by asking them to repeatedly introduce themselves, repeat their names for a few minutes and make them do other chores. We caught them on campus a few times and warned them, but they continued to still trespass. The incident took place in the last week of Oct, after which the freshers wrote to NMC.
