Kanpur: Police on Wednesday arrested a couple for allegedly killing a 22-year-old man in a forest in Gohani village under Majhgawan police station area in Hamirpur after luring him there on the pretext of a meeting. His body was found on Tuesday morning in a forest about 200 metres from his home, with sharp-weapon injuries on his neck.
CO Rajiv Pratap Singh said Atal Bihari, a resident of the same village, and his wife were arrested. Atal Bihari admitted to the killing and helped police recover the axe allegedly used in the crime, the CO said. Police said Harish Chandra was in a relationship with Atal Bihari’s wife. Atal Bihari was hiding there and attacked Harish Chandra with an axe when he arrived, according to the police.
Harish Chandra, son of Mahipat Pal and a resident of Gohani, had been missing since Monday evening. His broken mobile phone was found nearby. After her husband objected, the couple allegedly planned the murder. The victim’s mobile phone was allegedly crushed and discarded to destroy evidence of the relationship.
On Monday, the woman reportedly telephoned Harish Chandra, telling him that her husband had gone to the fields and asking him to meet her in the forest.
Singh persuaded them, after which a panel comprising Dr Rahul Sachan and Dr Anjum Niranjan conducted the post-mortem examination. The family initially refused to allow a post-mortem on Wednesday, demanding an FIR against all four.
