Nashik: A deep-seated grudge over an old public humiliation and assault led two men to plan a honey trap and carry out a shooting in Varangaon, Bhusawal, leaving a trucker critically injured on the evening of Nov 1.
Jalgaon police traced Sawale after recovering details of a social media account allegedly used to trap Sarfaraz before he was fired upon, a senior officer said. SP Shrikant Dhivare, while talking to the reporters in Jalgaon, said that over a year back, the accused had got into an argument with Sarfaraz and his friends owing to a road accident. Acting on Sarfaraz’s complaint, police registered a case of attempted murder along with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act against unidentified attackers. Sarfaraz and his friends had badly beaten up the two and even filmed the act. Sawale and Dhivre felt deeply humiliated, but did not register a police case. Instead, they decided to avenge the assault in their own way and set up the plot to allure Sarfaraz through a fake profile on the social media, call him to a desolate place and kill him. The firearm that the accused used was that of their friend who died in an accident and had seven cases registered against him at the Bhusawal city police station.
Assistant inspector Amit Bagul of the Warangaon police station said that the duo were produced before a court on Wednesday and were remanded in four-day police custody.
The accused have been identified as Siddharth Ramdas Dhivre (27) and Bhushan alias Bisla Raju Sawale (20) — both residents of Bhusawal. The victim is Sarfaraz Syed (24).
