The move could scrap more than 50% of the 142 advertised academic and non-academic vacancies, leaving thousands of candidates uncertain. Relying on this assurance, the university advertised around 142 posts, invited applications and completed several stages, including interviews.

Ahmedabad: A year-long recruitment drive at Gujarat University has hit a snag, with the state education department directing the cancellation of posts advertised under the Seventh Pay Commission but sanctioned under the Sixth Pay Commission. The university had sought govt approval to fill the vacant posts before initiating the recruitment process. It was preparing to complete the final formalities and issue appointment letters when the department issued its latest directive. The university had, however, withheld final appointments pending formal govt clearance. The new instructions have now put much of the recruitment process in jeopardy, with discrepancies in pay scales and eligibility criteria emerging as major hurdles. The university has submitted a fresh proposal to govt seeking clarity on the exact number of vacancies that can be filled. It is awaiting a response, while thousands of applicants remain uncertain about the outcome of a recruitment exercise that is already nearing completion.
