Gujarat University building at Ahmedabad
Sources said the post, reportedly shared in the HoDs’ WhatsApp group, subsequently went viral, triggering discussions across university circles. Ahmedabad: A fresh controversy has erupted at Gujarat University over the renovation of the in charge vice-chancellor’s bungalow and an adjoining director’s bungalow, even as a long-pending proposal to establish a laboratory for students in the chemistry department remains unresolved. The issue came to light after a senior professor and head of the department (HoD) from the science faculty expressed dissatisfaction with the university’s functioning in a social media post. Complaints have also surfaced that department heads often have to wait in queues to obtain approvals and signatures on official files.
The professor highlighted that repeated requests to establish a laboratory for students had failed to yield any results, according to sources. Despite several follow-ups over an extended period, university officials allegedly responded on three occasions that the relevant file had gone missing. The professor also questioned whether any inquiry had been conducted to identify those responsible for the missing files. The post raised questions about the university’s priorities, particularly whether renovating an unoccupied bungalow should take precedence over creating laboratory facilities for students.
