A 97-year-old California man named Vito has gone viral after footage showed him dancing to the Bee Gees’ iconic song ‘Stayin’ Alive’ at his birthday party, just hours before his death later that same night. Vito had wanted to celebrate his 97th birthday with a Halloween-themed party, bringing together friends for an evening of music, cake and dancing. However, what began as a lively celebration took an unexpected turn when he died shortly after the guests sang Happy Birthday. Videos of the occasion, shared by Los Angeles-based baker Eden Malinoff, have since attracted widespread attention, with viewers struck by the extraordinary coincidence involving the song’s title and the timing of his final moments.
Because vito died later that same night, the song’s title has since become the central talking point surrounding the story. He also revealed that Vito had been dealing with medical issues, although his friends had not realised how serious they were.
Malinoff said he was the life of the party and had an energetic personality that made him stand out among the group. Vito passed away peacefully with his favourite music playing, according to the friend. “If there is any way that Vito could have chosen to go out, it would have been like this,” she said in her video.
Despite the age difference, she described him as someone who loved life and could keep up with his younger friends. The cake featured prominently in her video, which showed her preparing the dessert and sharing glimpses of the gathering. She also included footage of Vito enjoying the party, surrounded by friends and guests who had come together to celebrate his milestone birthday. In the footage, he can be seen smiling, clapping and moving to the music as other guests enjoy the party. “He did pass away that night surrounded by his best friends just after we sang him happy birthday. He got a good dance in right before. It was an amazing birthday party,” the friend wrote.
