Jarange said he had no objection to submitting the recording to investigating officers and would cooperate fully with the probe. The SIT is headed by senior IPS officer Shailesh Balkawade, additional commissioner of police (crime), Mumbai. The team has been tasked with examining the allegations and establishing the authenticity and origin of the recording. The SIT is expected to conduct forensic examination of the material to establish its authenticity and identify those involved. The recording triggered a political storm, with BJP and Shiv Sena leaders trading allegations. Later, Mumbai police formed the SIT to examine the clip, identify the voices and verify the alleged transaction.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has agreed to hand over the original audio clip — allegedly discussing a Rs 500-crore deal to weaken his agitation — to the special investigation team (SIT). The activist added that he wanted the truth behind the alleged Rs 500-crore transaction to emerge and the main conspirator exposed through an impartial investigation. However, he has sought a written assurance from chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde that the person who gave him the recording will not face any threat to their life. Jarange had asked whether someone had allegedly collected money in his name and also demanded a high-level inquiry to identify those behind the alleged transaction.
