Nashik : The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to begin large-scale asphalting of major roads earmarked for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela after Diwali.
The subsequent monsoon further delayed the work as large-scale bituminous road works could not be undertaken during the rains.
The civic body had planned to start the asphalting earlier, but a shortage of bitumen in May and June, triggered by geopolitical tensions in West Asia, affected the schedule.
we are aiming to finish them around one to two months ahead of schedule,” she added Although the deadline for completing the road works is March 2027. The NMC is developing nearly 32 roads spanning about 150 km across the city for Kumbh Mela at an estimated cost of Rs 1,400 crore. About 40% of the road network will use cement concrete, while the remaining stretches will be bituminous roads requiring extensive asphalting. Officials said most of these works are expected to be completed by December-end, while the remaining ones will be finished by March 2027.
