Hyderabad: The National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW), on Thursday signed a technology transfer agreement with MOHSoft Tech Private Limited for the commercialisation of an indigenous ozone-based disinfection technology developed by researchers from its Department of Physics.

Researchers said that technology harnesses the natural oxidising properties of ozone to eliminate up to 99.9% of viruses, bacteria and other pathogens under specified operating conditions.

This collaboration will help take an indigenously developed technology beyond the laboratory and create opportunities for its wider adoption across sectors,” said Bidyadhar Subudhi, director, NITW. Our focus has been on translating scientific principles into a practical technology that can be further refined, scaled up and made commercially viable,” said D Harnath, one of the inventors of the technology. They added that unlike conventional chemical disinfectants, ozone decomposes into oxygen after use, minimising concerns associated with chemical residues. “Translating research outcomes into technologies that address real-world challenges is an important part of our institutional vision. The technology transfer agreement grants MOHSoft the rights to manufacture, scale up and commercialise the products for domestic and international markets. The two organisations will also collaborate on further research and development. “The technology is the outcome of our research efforts to harness the unique properties of ozone and develop an effective, sustainable and indigenous disinfection solution.
