Shiv Sena distributed Diwali faral kits in Ambarnath to assist financially disadvantaged families in celebration
KALYAN: With rising prices making it increasingly difficult for economically weaker families to prepare traditional Diwali delicacies, the Shiv Sena distributed Diwali faral kits at a nominal price of Rs 10 to nearly 4,000 people in Ambarnath. The programme, which has been held for the past 18 years, aims to ensure that financially disadvantaged families can celebrate Diwali without having to worry about the rising cost of essential food items. The annual initiative was organised at Bhavani Chowk in Khuntavali, Ambarnath West, under the leadership of Shiv Sena city chief Arvind Walekar.
Each kit, containing around eight to ten essential ingredients required to prepare traditional Diwali snacks and sweets, was made available for just Rs 10, despite its estimated market value being around Rs 391. The kit included 1kg of rava, 1kg of maida, half a kg each of sugar, poha and dal, a packet of cooking oil, 250 grams of peanuts, 100 grams of daliya and a packet of chivda masala. Arvind Walekar said the initiative had been continued for the past 18 years with the objective of sharing the joy of Diwali with needy families.
Organiser said the initiative aimed to ensure that no family was deprived of traditional festive preparations due to financial constraints.
