Mahatma Gandhi’s first life-size statue in North Dakota was unveiled at Peace Park in downtown Bismarck, the state capital, on October 29, marking a new addition to India’s cultural presence in the United States.
Located at 400 East Front Avenue, Peace Park was developed following the September 11, 2001, attacks.
The Consulate said India-North Dakota ties have grown through engagements in agriculture, business, education and cultural activities, including International Day of Yoga celebrations and consular outreach in Fargo. The statue was installed with the assistance of the Consulate General of India in Seattle, with support from the Indian-American community and the North Dakota Trade Office. The ceremony was attended by North Dakota First Lady Kjersti Armstrong, Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and India’s Consul General in Seattle. It also houses a Peace Pole installed by the Gandhi Peace Network of North Dakota. With the Bismarck installation, the number of Gandhi monuments within the jurisdiction of the Indian Consulate in Seattle has risen to five. The other locations are Bellevue Public Library, Seattle’s Space Needle, the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln and the University of Montana in Missoula. You use AI every day.
