Kolkata: Like Durga Puja, the number of registered Kali Pujas in the city has also increased this year.
The figure has gone up from 2,745 Kali Pujas last year to 3,343 this year, registering a 22% increase. Police said a few more might register in the next 48 hours. A Lalbazar officer said that while the rise in number under Kolkata Police jurisdiction was primarily due to the addition of Kali Pujas from the newly added Bhangar division, there was also a slight rise in enrolments from pujas in other divisions.

“We already have applications for around 3,343 pujas,” said joint CP (headquarters) Sudeep Sarkar. The number of big-budget pujas had also increased, going beyond the traditional spots of north and central Kolkata and spreading to Behala and Mukundapur, said an organiser. Download the TOI App.
