Jewellers said elevated prices continue to influence purchasing decisions, with consumers becoming more cautious about discretionary spending

Ahmedabad recorded sales of approximately 40kg, down 60% from 100kg on Dhanteras in 2025, according to estimates by India Bullion and Jewellers’ Association (IBJA). In the city, gold is trading close to Rs 1,47,500 per 10 grams, whereas silver is priced at nearly Rs 1,90,000 per kg. The recent decline from record highs has provided some relief to buyers and boosted festive demand,” said Haresh Acharya, director, IBJA. However, they have not been enough to revive festive demand to last year’s levels, jewellers said. The demand for silver was particularly strong, with buyers opting for everything from coins and bars to jewellery and utensils,” said Jigar Soni, president, Jewellers’ Association of Ahmedabad. Jewellers said elevated prices continue to influence purchasing decisions, with consumers becoming more cautious about discretionary spending.
“Gold and silver prices have remained volatile amid geopolitical tensions and uncertainty over the global economic outlook. Developments in West Asia, shifting expectations around US interest rates, and dollar movements have all affected precious metal prices. “The recent correction in gold and silver prices helped bring buyers back to the market. Footfall figures were good, with demand picking up gradually through the day. Consumers purchased gold across categories, including jewellery, coins and bars. We had enough pre-orders for jewellery, but mostly for single pieces such as bangles, chains, earrings, rings and neckpieces. With the wedding season approaching, jewellers will be watching whether the correction in precious metal prices translates into stronger buying in the coming weeks. Download the TOI App.
