In a LinkedIn post in June 2025, when she announced her candidacy for the US House of Representatives, Alag described his reaction as a “proud husband moment”. Dandiya has said that her son and her former students were among the reasons she decided to run for Congress. He has publicly expressed support for Dandiya’s political career. She studied government at Harvard University and earned a master’s degree in education from Boston University. She began her career as a teacher with Teach For America and later became the founding principal of Democracy Prep Endurance High School in Harlem, New York. Later, she worked on public-sector initiatives at Apple.
