Hyderabad: As Telangana moves towards publication of the final electoral roll, Election Commission data shows that scrutiny has been completed in nearly all of the 92.8 lakh voter records flagged during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), though questions remain over more than 1.3 lakh cases yet to be accounted for in the latest disposal figures. Nearly 98% of the 92.8 lakh notice cases generated during the SIR process have been cleared for final publication, according to the district-wise report released by the chief electoral officer (CEO) on Friday. While 54,418 electors were found ineligible, another 1.3 lakh cases did not figure in the disposal breakup released so far. Of the 92.8 lakh notices generated statewide, 91 lakh cases have been parked for final publication after being cleared under the logical discrepancy and no-mapping scrutiny categories. These comprise 59.7 lakh logical discrepancy cases and 31 lakh no-mapping cases. The figures leave a gap of 1.8 lakh cases between notices issued and cases cleared for publication. Electorate shrinks after ASDD exclusions Telangana had 3.38 crore electors before the SIR exercise. Following the exclusion of 73.3 lakh voters under the absent, shifted, dead and duplicate (ASDD) categories, the draft electoral roll came down to 2.65 crore electors. Subsequently, notices were issued to 60.5 lakh electors for logical anomalies and to 32.3 lakh electors classified as unmapped, taking the total notice count to 92.8 lakh. After excluding these notice cases from the draft roll, around 1.7 crore electors remained outside the scrutiny pool. The report shows that Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts together accounted for 38.9 lakh notices, or 41.93% of all notices generated in Telangana. Of these, 37.9 lakh cases have already been cleared and parked for final publication under the scrutiny categories, accounting for nearly 97.3% of notices in the three districts. CEO C Sudharshan Reddy said the final size of Telangana’s electorate would depend on the disposal of pending cases, fresh Form 6 applications and the publication of the final electoral rolls.
