Lucknow: Dhanteras sales of high-end and mid-range electronic home and kitchen appliances in the city touched around Rs 31 crore this year, compared to Rs 28 crore last year, registering a growth of nearly 11%. However, traders said the increase was below expectations due to rising prices and fluctuations in the dollar-rupee exchange rate.
Retailers in Hazratganj, Alambagh and Aliganj said customers remained cautious while purchasing smart appliances, electronic gadgets and other festive items. Discounts, exchange offers and easy EMI options attracted buyers, but higher product prices affected overall demand.
Rising prices and the weakening rupee against the dollar have increased costs, affecting both consumers and traders,” said Pawan Manocha, president, Uttar Pradesh Traders Coordination Committee. Traders said many customers preferred mid-range products over expensive appliances, while some postponed purchases in anticipation of better offers.
