Maharashtra government plans to issue Farmer IDs to approximately 1.6 lakh farmers lacking entries in land records
Bawankule also announced that ministers across Maharashtra would celebrate Diwali with farmers and their families. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will personally visit a village in Katol taluka of Nagpur district to celebrate the festival with a farmer’s family.
NAGPUR: The state government has decided to provide Farmer IDs to around 1.6 lakh farmers who cultivate land but do not have their names recorded in the 7/12 land extract or Farmer ID database, state revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Saturday. The decision is expected to benefit around 1.6 lakh farmers across Maharashtra, including tribal farmers who have received land allotments but whose names have not been updated in official land records.
“Under the new policy, farmers who have been cultivating land since January 1, 2015, but do not possess a Farmer ID, will be eligible for one if they can produce even a single supporting document,” said Bawankule. Describing it as a Diwali gift from the Devendra Fadnavis-led government, Bawankule said the move would help farmers access government schemes and benefits. In another relief measure, the government has decided to conduct offline land surveys in areas where online survey facilities are unavailable. The demand for offline surveys had been pending for a long time, and the decision is expected to directly benefit around one lakh farmers across the state.
The project is likely to directly benefit around 1,000 farmers in the region, Bawankule said. An irrigation project that has remained pending for several years is also expected to receive approval during the visit.
