Rejecting the condition, Raj stated that today’s youth would not: The wider industry impact

Kochi: Actor and activist Prakash Raj backed 16 suspended SFI workers during their relay fast at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady on Saturday. The university suspended the students following protests on Aug 13 and offered to reinstate them only if they submitted written apologies.

Rejecting the condition, Raj stated that today’s youth would not write “sorry petitions” like Savarkar. He said the current generation protests peacefully using methods taught by Gandhi and exercises rights granted by Babasaheb Ambedkar, rather than choosing violence like Godse.

Raj accused the university leadership and higher education minister Roji M John of taking a dictatorial approach to student grievances. Defending the students’ theatre performance over basic campus facilities, he challenged officials to provide proof of claims that vice-chancellor Ciza Thomas was physically assaulted. Raj added that he will join the demonstration if the university bars suspended students from writing exams. Download the TOI App.
