Sajeendran said that it was when he visited Vadavucode hospital in his own constituency that he noticed the isolation ward lying overgrown with weeds. It was in the subsequent inquiry that he got information that a similar situation exists at other centres in the state, he said. The fact that even in buildings recorded as having been completed, there are no facilities required for inpatient treatment raises serious doubts about the implementation of the project, Sajeendran said. There is also no answer to the question of how wards that were supposed to be urgently set up for infectious disease prevention became unusable, he said.
Kochi: Kunnathunad MLA V P Sajeendran has alleged large-scale irregularities in the construction of isolation wards for infectious disease prevention in the wake of the Covid pandemic at govt hospitals across the state during the previous LDF govt’s period. Even the basic facilities required for inpatient treatment are not available in the buildings constructed by spending crores, Sajeendran alleged. There are many defects, including a lack of basic facilities like air conditioning and toilets, and incomplete electrical, plumbing and civil works.
