The court adjourned the matter to Nov 26. Kochi: The high court has directed Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, to produce an email sent by the impartial observer appointed to oversee the campus union election to the vice-chancellor, which reportedly led to the decision to postpone the election. A bench of Justice P V Kunhikrishnan issued the interim order on a petition filed by Midhun Krishna P K, a postgraduate Sociology student who had contested for the post of general secretary of the campus union. He challenged the vice-chancellor’s decision to postpone the election.

The university had issued a notification scheduling the election for Oct 16, according to the petitioner. However, the election was subsequently postponed indefinitely, reportedly based on a report by the impartial observer appointed to oversee the election process. The petitioner alleged that the returning officer had rejected the nominations of certain ABVP and KSU members, citing defects. The students then approached the vice-chancellor with their grievances, following which the latter ordered the postponement of the election. The petitioner further submitted that the impartial observer had subsequently informed the returning officer that he had not recommended postponement of the election. He also contended that his request to the vice-chancellor to proceed with the election as scheduled was rejected, leaving him with no option but to approach the HC.
