Baker Mayfield suffered a dislocated right thumb on his throwing hand in late September during a Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter when his hand violently collided with the forearm of Minnesota Vikings linebacker Blake Cashman during a pass attempt that resulted in an interception In an interview recently, Baker Mayfield reflected on his thumb injury as he said, “Yeah, I don’t know if until the offseason it’ll feel back to completely normal. Baker Mayfield, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ star player, has been a force to be reckoned with on the field as he continues to face a thumb injury. Ahead of the exciting clash against the Chicago Bears, all eyes remain on the star player, Baker Mayfield. He was a full participant in practice all week (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) as he continues to manage a thumb injury on his throwing hand For tonight’s Sunday Night Football game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without linebacker Yaya Diaby, who has been ruled out with an MCL sprain. But yeah, it just feels better and better each week, especially after, obviously, the last two weeks not having to use it that much, not a lot of contact.”
Left tackle Tristan Wirfs cleared his injury designation and will start despite suffering a toe injury earlier in the week, while wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is officially questionable but heavily anticipated to return after he logged consecutive full practices.
