Agra : A 70-year-old retired veterinary officer from Aligarh was allegedly duped of Rs 30 lakh after cyber fraudsters invoked Pulwama attack to frighten and convince him that his bank account was linked to a terror-related financial investigation, police said Tuesday. The victim, Prem Kumar Khatri, received a WhatsApp message and a phone call on Aug 18, according to an FIR registered at Aligarh’s cyber crime police station on Aug 22.
The caller allegedly told him that his Aadhaar had been used in connection with the “2019 Pulwama attack” and that money linked to the case had been deposited into his account. SHO of cyber police station, Shiv Shankar Gupta, said, “It is a serious matter and a case has been registered. A police team has been set up to trace and apprehend the culprits.”
The victim was allegedly given a bank account number and instructed to transfer Rs 30 lakh for the purported verification process.
Believing the callers, the victim visited his bank and transferred the amount through “RTGS”. He later became suspicious and informed the bank, where he was told that he had been targeted in a cyber fraud .
