Hindalga jail
In 2023, notorious criminal Jayesh Pujari made a threat call from Hindalga jail to the office of Union minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur, Maharashtra, demanding ransom. The case was transferred to Belagavi Rural police from Banashankari police station in Bengaluru after investigations revealed that the alleged threat calls originated from within Hindalga jail. Belagavi : Hindalga Central Prison has once again come under scrutiny after Belagavi Rural police registered a case against five individuals, including an inmate lodged in the jail in a murder case, for allegedly extorting money and threatening a Bengaluru-based contractor. This case has once again raised questions about the security efficiency of jail authorities. The NIA later arrested him and uncovered links to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit, putting the prison’s security mechanisms under scrutiny.
When he refused, the accused allegedly threatened him with serious consequences. Walter is also accused of abusing him over the phone and threatening to kill him, assault his family members and cause physical harm if he did not comply.
Based on a complaint filed by Imran Fazlur Rehman Anjum (36), a resident of Padmanabhanagar, Bengaluru, police registered a case against Grace Walter Joseph, Prajwal, Harish, Jayant and another unidentified person. Further investigation is underway. Fearing for his safety, Imran approached Banashankari police. As the alleged threat calls were traced to Hindalga jail, the case was transferred to Belagavi Rural police for further investigation.
