Kolkata: Forensic experts arrived at Jadavpur University late Tuesday evening to investigate the site of a recent clash. Concurrently, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) lodged a formal complaint with the Jadavpur Police Station against two university professors, escalating tensions surrounding the incident.
The complaint speaks about a possible hand of “the professors in the damaging of the emblem at the university gate. “Rajeshwar Sinha was the first person to publicly bring the matter of the broken emblem to attention. However, since the incident is alleged to have occurred at an important and crowded public institution such as a university, it is necessary to properly examine available video footage, statements of witnesses, and all other relevant evidence,” stated the complainant. “It may be investigated as to how and through what source Rajeshwar Sinha first came to know about the incident, whether he possessed any information or video footage relating to the incident before or after it occurred, and whether he had any direct or indirect communication or connection with the incident. It may be investigated whether the incident was deliberately staged, provoked, or followed by the dissemination of misleading information with the intention of maligning any particular political or ideological organization,” the complaint states. Meanwhile, the forensic team collected several samples from different locations over a span of an hour. The samples were gathered mainly to determine the source and nature of the fire that broke out on the day of the incident. Investigators are trying to find out whether any chemicals or flammable substances were used to start the fire, and if so, establish their nature, claimed sources.
Shubhabrata Adhikari, a member of ABVP’s central committee, said they also wanted action over various anti-national slogans written inside the university campus. Such slogans were written with the support of Roy and Singh, according to them. “ABVP is therefore demanding an investigation against both professors,” claimed Adhikari.
