PWD on July 30 issued a notification that the 528 traders housed in the existing BC Roy Market (more popularly Maidan Market) should shift to the temporary stalls by Aug 26. RVNL, the agency implementing the 14km Purple line or the Joka-Esplanade corridor, has built 528 stalls in the nearby Mounted Police paddock grounds. State PWD is planning to hand over all the 528 keys to the listed stall-owners in the next two days. others are aware that Calcutta High Court has given them an extra week to stay at the existing premises While some are following the PWD date (Aug 26) as the date of ultimatum. Apart from 528 traders, 114 hawkers will be evicted before RVNL starts razing existing BC Roy Market.

The traders were told to operate from there till the Esplanade metro station construction is completed after razing the existing BC Roy Market. But many traders have completed their packing are preparing to shift to the new stalls,” said Md Hussain, a stall-owner. “If they take an extra day or two, it doesn’t matter,” a state official said. Kolkata: Some traders of BC Roy Market locked up their stalls on Wednesday, having packed their wares for the shifting. State PWD on Tuesday started handing over keys to the temporary stalls built by RVNL at the nearby Kolkata Mounted Police grounds. Calcutta High Court on Monday dismissed the writ petition by the BC Roy Market traders’ body, asking them to shift to the temporary stalls built by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) to make way for the Purple line’s Esplanade metro station.
