AGARTALA: A local court in Unokoti district has granted bail to three individuals, including an elected Zilla Parishad member from the ruling BJP, who were arrested for allegedly assaulting an on-duty doctor at the district hospital. This decision has drawn criticism from the All Tripura Government Doctors Association (ATGDA), which expressed its dissatisfaction with the court’s ruling on Saturday.
Police said, based on an FIR, they arrested Zilla Parishad member Shyamal Das and two others, identified as Sandip Das and Ranjit Das. However, the police have not booked the accused under this Act; instead, they were arrested under various non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Naya Sanghita. The victim doctor stated that the accused, Ranjit Das, had some head injuries, and the three were asked to go to the dressing room. However, the trio turned violent toward the doctor. He was reportedly slapped in the presence of a few police personnel. When the police tried to intervene, they were also misbehaved with, which was evident in the hospital’s CCTV footage.
