Agra: Two inmates at a govt-run girls’ shelter home in Vrindavan allegedly drowned a 14-year-old girl in a bucket in the hope that the facility would be shut down and they would be set free, police said on Saturday. A magistrate inquiry has also been ordered.
A case was registered on the complaint of the shelter home superintendent at Vrindavan police station under BNS sections 103(1), 238A, 61(2) and 324(4) for murder, giving false information, criminal conspiracy, among others.
Her body was sent for post-mortem, which found drowning to be the cause of death, police said. Police said the two girls were questioned and disclosed their involvement. “Circumstantial evidence collected so far corroborates the involvement of the two girls,” Kumar said. The SSP said the alleged motive emerged during questioning. “The girls believed that if the incident took place, the shelter home would be closed and they would consequently be set free,” he said.
Investigators also questioned other inmates and inspected the spot. The girl was found dead in the bathroom of the shelter home on Friday. The SSP and Mathura district magistrate inspected the shelter home and the scene of the incident on Saturday evening.
Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar said CCTV footage showed the victim entering the bathroom attached to her room with two other girls, both around 15.
“While all three entered the bathroom, only the two girls came out,” Kumar said.
Further investigation and the magistrate’s inquiry will establish the complete sequence of events,” Kumar said. “Circumstantial evidence has been found at the spot and the involvement of the girls is being indicated.
