A sleeper bus carrying 50 passengers overturned on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Monday morning, resulting in one fatality and 15 injuries. According to police reports, the driver fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the loss of control of the vehicle. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The accident happened around 2 am near the 29 km milestone under the jurisdiction of Fatehabad police station in Agra district. A total of 16 injured individuals were rushed to SN Medical College in Agra for emergency medical care. Police identified the deceased as 30-year-old Rahul Yadav , a resident of Kanpur.
SHO of Fatehabad police station, the Kanpur-Gurgaon bus veered out of control, hit the central divider and flipped onto its side, trapping dozens of sleeping passengers inside, according to Vinod Mishra. The sleeping passengers were thrown onto one another, triggering panic as screams for help echoed from inside the vehicle. Upon receiving emergency alerts, joint rescue teams from Fatehabad police and the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) rushed to the scene. Emergency personnel smashed open the bus windows to pull the passengers out of the wreckage. One passenger succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The bus driver was also among the injured. Fatehabad ACP Imran Ahmed stated, “A team from Fatehabad police station immediately reached the spot and carried out relief and rescue operations. Fourteen injured persons were initially taken to hospital, where one of them later passed away. Inquest proceedings are currently underway, and further legal action is being taken.”
