After the aircraft landed at KIA around 9.45am, it was moved to an isolated location as a precautionary measure. All passengers and crew members were safely deplaned before the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with the sniffer dog squad, launched a detailed inspection of the aircraft.
A senior officer said that the KIA police are yet to receive a complaint from the airline or airport security officials. However, an intensive search by security agencies found no explosives, with the threat subsequently declared a hoax. The threat was spotted near the aircraft’s toilet a few minutes before landing at KIA. Taking the matter seriously, the cabin crew immediately alerted the pilot, who informed Air Traffic Control (ATC). Security teams thoroughly searched the cabin, seats, overhead luggage compartments, toilets and other sensitive areas for any suspicious object. After completing the checks, officials found no explosive material inside the aircraft. Meanwhile, airport authorities are trying to determine who issued the threat and how the message reached the aircraft. They are also verifying the details of passengers who travelled on the flight. The incident has once again raised concern among security agencies, particularly as aircraft landing at KIA have witnessed several hoax bomb threats in the past.
