Itel announces its entire feature phone portfolio will now support: The wider industry impact

Itel has announced that all of its feature phones will now support USB Type-C charging, transitioning away from the older Micro USB Type-B standard. This upgrade will affect the entire portfolio, including entry-level models. Additionally, Itel confirmed that its upcoming Heera feature phone will also feature Type-C charging support.

The company added that it currently has a presence across more than 1.3 lakh retail outlets in India, supported by a network of over 1,000 service centres . itel also continues to offer a one-year counter replacement policy for feature phones with manufacturing defects, allowing eligible customers to replace their devices at participating retail outlets within one year of purchase. The company said the move is intended to provide a common charging interface across its portfolio, eliminating the need for the older Type-B connector. itel also announced that it will launch the next version of its Heera feature phone with Type-C charging support.

The transition aims to offer a single charging standard across its portfolio for users who rely on feature phones for communication, digital payments, and other everyday tasks, according to itel. The company said the device will be positioned in the entry-level segment. Commenting on the announcement, the company said the adoption of Type-C charging across its feature phone range is intended to improve charging convenience and reliability by introducing a universal charging standard.

The announcement extends Type-C charging, which was already available across itel’s smartphone portfolio and select feature phones, to every feature phone the company sells in India. With the change, all new itel feature phones will support USB Type-C charging, including entry-level models.
