During the protest, a man, identified as party supporter Anil Verma, is purportedly seen trying to set fire to a poster of Yogi Adityanath.

MEERUT: A Samajwadi Party supporter allegedly tried to burn a poster of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath during a protest by members of the party’s advocate association in Meerut’s Civil Lines, around 100 metres from the SSP office.

He said Anil Verma, who is a party supporter, could have attempted to burn the poster as an attempt to get the incident viral. During the protest, a man, identified as party supporter Anil Verma, is purportedly seen trying to set fire to a poster of Yogi Adityanath. The man first uses a lighter to set the poster on fire, but the photo doesn’t sustain much damage. He tries again with the lighter before pouring petrol on the poster and attempting to set it on fire for a third time. A sub-inspector immediately snatches the poster from his hand and folds it. Anil continues raising slogans as the police officer takes the poster away. SSP Meerut BBGTS Murthy and SP City Vinayak Gopal Bhosale did not respond to TOI’s attempts to seek comment on the incident. An FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station. Further details are awaited.
