He said 38 CCTV cameras had been installed and noted that tracking the tiger in the vast Temba forest, spread across 8,000 to 10,000 acres, would be challenging. Deputy conservator of forests Nirmala NK said the tiger’s presence was first suspected based on pugmarks, prompting officials to install cameras to confirm its movement. In a post on X, he said thermal drones were being flown at night to locate the tiger and that forest officials from Ballari, Vijayanagara and Koppal districts were jointly conducting the search operation. DCF Nirmala NK said forest personnel were carrying out continuous patrols and urged villagers not to leave livestock inside forest areas and to strictly follow departmental advisories.
Koppal : The forest department has intensified efforts to trace and capture a tiger spotted in the Temba forest region near Anegondi in Gangavathi, under the Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority (HWHAMA), deploying thermal drones and additional camera traps to track the animal. Forest officials have installed more camera traps and pressed elephant task force personnel from the Mysuru division into service. Drone experts have also joined the operation to assist in locating the animal. The sighting is being described as the first of its kind in the region in nearly five decades. District minister Shivaraj Tangadagi appealed to the public not to panic. The measures, he added, were being undertaken to ensure public safety.
