Man dies while trying to stop fight in Pilibhit village

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

A 46-year-old farmer in Basantpur village, Pilibhit, died on Thursday following an alleged attack. According to police reports, the farmer intervened in a dispute between his nephew and another individual when the incident escalated. The circumstances surrounding the attack are still under investigation.

On Wednesday, while out for a stroll, he saw his nephew Suraj Kumar , 30, arguing with Anil Kumar , 32, who, like Suraj, was involved in agricultural work. Neoria SHO Digambar Singh said, “Based on the complaint by the deceased’s son, a case has been filed against Anil Kumar under BNS sections 105 (culpable homicide) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation). Ram Pal Kisan had come to the village from Dehradun for Raksha Bandhan. The accused was on the run but would be arrested soon. We have sent the body for autopsy. Download the TOI App.

Kisan’s son Shiv Kumar said, “My father was taken to the autonomous state medical college hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. When Kisan tried to intervene, Anil allegedly repeatedly hit him with an iron bracelet, causing him to fall and suffer a head injury. We are all labourers, he did not mean any harm. He saw his nephew being beaten up and only wanted to help.”
