Poor roads lead to a worse traffic situation in Hinjewadi
Various citizen groups in the IT Park have announced a protest on Sept 6 in Hinjewadi IT Park. Their demands include expediting land acquisition for road widening at various places, immediate launch of the Metro line along with last-mile connectivity, a separate Municipal Corporation for the IT Park, sourcing of up to 2 TMC of water from Mulshi Dam to ensure long-term water supply and a permanent solution for the Wakad flyover and key underpasses. Pune: Supriya Sule , a Member of Parliament from NCP (SP), urged the state govt to resolve infrastructure woes in Hinjewadi IT Park citing fear of industries’ relocation due to the hardships faced by employees. She highlighted the rising instances of fatal accidents due to poor roads and improper traffic management.

Sule said there was a fear that the firms may relocate owing to the pending infrastructure work. The needle has barely moved despite several meetings and a single-point authority for the technology park, she said, adding that the key reason for the works’ backlog was a lack of coordination among the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and public works department (PWD). It was shameful that residents had to protest for their basic rights,” she said.
“The reality is that beyond mere announcements and formal meetings, no actual work has been done. “The IT Park was rife with issues such as poor roads, massive traffic jams, lack of safety and water shortages. The citizens’ groups also sought a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis with state agencies, police and citizen representatives to implement urgent measures at key bottlenecks and monthly meetings held by the district collector to monitor implementation.
