Kochi: The Kochi corporation has finalised the design of the dog shelter proposed at Brahmapuram. The contractor is completing the levelling of the ground prior to the construction of the shelter.

Once the corporation council gives its nod for the design, the local body will invite tenders. “We had invited designs from students, experts and public. We have selected one design. The decision to build the shelter is based on a Supreme Court ruling that mandates the removal of stray dogs from public areas, with local bodies taking the initiative. The animals will be moved to the shelter after sterilising them. The construction will adhere to the animal welfare board guidelines. The shelter will include an observation block, post-operative block, quarantine block and disabled ward. Facilities for cooking food and storing medicines for the dogs, along with CCTV surveillance, will be available. An adoption centre will also operate alongside this. Download the TOI App.
