Lucknow: A 33-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with sticks and clubs following a dispute over a pathway in Bahraich’s Redhalal village Wednesday night. Police have registered a murder case and detained five suspects for questioning.
The incident occurred at around 10 pm in the Dehat kotwali area.
An argument over the issue escalated when members of the opposing group allegedly attacked Kumar with sticks and clubs, according to the family. The deceased was identified as Nand Kumar, who reportedly had an ongoing dispute with some villagers over the use of a pathway. He sustained serious injuries in the assault. Kumar’s wife reportedly rushed to the spot after seeing her husband being attacked and tried to intervene. The attackers allegedly assaulted her as well when she attempted to rescue him. The incident triggered grief among his family members and residents of the village. His wife named Ram Kumar, Amarjeet, Manjeet, Vishram and Bhadai as the five persons responsible for the attack. Dehat kotwali police reached the village after receiving information about the incident and took custody of the body.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination on Wednesday.
Family members said Kumar was being taken for medical treatment in a critical condition after the assault, but he died on the way to the hospital. Dehat kotwali inspector Daddan Singh said an FIR had been registered on the basis of the family’s complaint. Five persons have been detained and are being questioned.
