Nashik: This year, road accidents in Nashik city have claimed 116 lives while leaving 310 injured between Jan and July, showing a slight drop in fatalities (124 in Jan-July 2025) but an increase in injuries (296 in Jan-July 2025). Police records said 12 people were killed in Jan and 11 in Feb. The number more than doubled to 25 in March, with 19 deaths in April, 20 in May, 19 in June and then a sharp drop to 10 in July. Traffic is slowed down by at least 20 minutes to 30 minutes, but NMC was doing nothing about it, he added.

Senior police officials said that under the guidance of police commissioner Sandeep Karnik, they were making every effort to streamline traffic and ensure there are no accidents on city roads. Officials said that owing to roadworks and diversions, a large number of traffic wardens were assisting them. Vivek Pawar, a regular commuter, said authorities concerned had not thought to improve roads on which traffic has been diverted.
Police were also in constant communication with Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials to improve road condition, clear encroachments and clean slush. The number of fatalities may be down, but motorists were frustrated with the existing situation. These stretches have vehicles parked along the sides with vegetable, fruit and food vendors adding to the encroachment.
