Howrah : After being trapped in an elevator for about 40 minutes at Liluah railway station, nine passengers were rescued by personnel of Belur GRP, RPF and two technical staffers. Eastern Railway chief public relations officer, Shibram Majhi, said engineers initially suspected a mechanical fault. He said nobody was injured. Police said an FIR would be registered if a formal complaint was received.
They used crowbars and iron rods to open the elevator’s door. The passengers, three of whom were hospitalised at Belur State General Hospital and later discharged, were rescued one by one. The lift malfunctioned while it was descending from the upper level. A detailed inquiry had been ordered into the incident and repairs were underway. Police recorded a suo motu general diary entry.
