Tirunelveli: A 21-year-old MBBS aspirant allegedly died by suicide at Palayamkottai on Sunday morning after failing to secure a seat in the first round of counselling despite clearing the national eligibility-cum-entrance test ( NEET ) this year. She had completed Class XII from a private school in Palayamkottai in 2023 and had been preparing for NEET.
Police said Shruthi Laya had been attending coaching classes for the past two years. Police said Shruthi Laya was deeply disappointed on finding that her name did not figure in the first round allotment list. The deceased, Shruthi Laya, was a resident of Siddharthar Nagar and daughter of Harikrishnan, an IT employee. They later found her hanging in a shed near the house. Based on information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
As she failed to secure a seat last year, she was determined to gain admission this year, and she cleared the NEET examination. She appeared disturbed on Saturday night before going to bed. On Sunday morning, when her family could not find her inside the house, they began searching the premises.
